Impressum Checker
If your site addresses the German market commercially, § 5 DDG requires an imprint — and its absence is the easiest thing for a competitor to report. This checks whether an imprint and a privacy policy are discoverable on your site.
What this checks
- ✓No imprint (Impressum) found § 5 DDG
- ✓No privacy policy found Art. 13 GDPR
How the check works
We load your page like a visitor and look for a discoverable imprint and privacy policy — linked from the page, reachable, and recognizable as such (Impressum/imprint, Datenschutz/privacy). We check discoverability, not legal completeness: whether the content itself satisfies § 5 DDG in detail is a question for a lawyer.
Common questions
Do I need an Impressum for a side project?
If the site is geschäftsmäßig — commercial in the broad sense, which includes ads, affiliate links or promoting a paid product — § 5 DDG requires one, regardless of company size. Purely private pages are exempt.
I'm not in Germany — does this apply to me?
The Impressum duty targets services addressing the German market. If you sell to German customers in German or euros, prudent practice is to have one. The privacy-policy duty (Art. 13 GDPR) applies EU-wide regardless.
What must an Impressum contain?
Name and address of the operator, contact including email, and depending on legal form: representatives, register entry and VAT ID. Our check page lists the details with sources.
